Lindsey Vonn postpones return to competitive skiing
It was only a few weeks ago Lindsey Vonn told reporters at a U.S. Olympic Committee news conference that she hoped to resume competitive skiing this month.
Now, it seems her rehabilitation from knee surgery will keep her off the World Cup circuit until late November.
Vonn has decided not to enter this weekend’s season opener in Austria, pointing instead to a race in Beaver Creek, Colo., beginning Nov. 29.
“While I physically feel great, I have decided to not race this weekend and instead will focus on returning in Beaver Creek,” she told the Associated Press. “I am confident the extra month of training will ultimately put me in the best position to have a successful season.”
Vonn injured her anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments in a crash at the world championships in Schladming last February.
The Olympic downhill champion and four-time overall World Cup winner has been training in Austria but tweeted Wednesday that she was headed back to the U.S.
A postponed return would still give her time prepare for the upcoming Sochi Olympics in February.
