Browns will start Jason Campbell at quarterback Sunday
The quarterback carousel continues to spin in Cleveland, where the Browns said Jason Campbell will start Sunday’s game at Kansas City.
Browns Coach Rob Chudzinski announced the move Wednesday in a morning meeting with reporters.
“He’s been productive, given us leadership, gives us the best chance to win,” the coach said.
Cleveland is 0-4 with Weeden as a starter this season, most recently losing to Green Bay on Sunday, 31-13.
Weeden was replaced by third-stringer Brian Hoyer, who gave the team an unexpected lift until suffering a season-ending knee injury.
Campbell recently told reporters he was bothered by the team’s decision to leapfrog him for Hoyer.
“Did it sting a little bit?” Campbell said, according to the Akron Beacon Journal. “Yeah, it stung a little bit because as a competitor, you’re disappointed. But then all the sudden, you find it’s not about you, it’s about the team, and they’re trying to find out what they have on this team going forward.
“My job is to support these guys, and at the same time, try to stay prepared, stay mentally in it and just be prepared to play at any time.”
Kansas City is first in the league with 35 sacks, and also has the top spot for passes defensed with 64, and fumble recoveries with nine.
