Blue Star Donuts in Venice will hand out free doughnuts on Monday
Blue Star Donuts, the Portland, Ore., shop known for its brioche-style doughnuts, is having a pre-opening preview Monday, before officially opening on Abbot Kinney Boulevard on Oct. 21. And at the preview, there will be free doughnuts.
The Venice Beach location will open its doors at 9 a.m. to offer guests a free blueberry bourbon basil or pina colada doughnut while supplies last.
The store will then close on Oct. 20, and reopen on Oct. 21 with a full list of Blue Star’s most popular flavors, including the hard apple cider fritter and the O.G. “orxata†glaze doughnut with an original recipe for horchata.
The brand is also introducing some L.A.-specific flavors, including the pina colada, made with pineapple, coconut, rum, mint-flavored cake and shredded coconut; and the Greek yogurt honey granola doughnut topped with housemade granola.
Blue Star Donuts Venice also plans on making a strawberry shortcake doughnut; a grenache ganache doughnut; and a mimosa doughnut featuring a sparkling wine-infused, orange-scented glaze in the near future.
The flavors are anything but traditional, and so is the way the doughnuts are made. All of the dough ferments and proofs overnight, and is fried in rice oil.
The shop will also serve Stumptown Roasters coffee and cold brew.
Blue Star Donuts will be open as a to-go only operation daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., or until they run out of doughnuts.
