Food events: Taste of Mexico, ‘Zahav’ at Animal, Salvadore Dali dinner in the O.C.

Taste of Mexico Food Festival — The fifth annual celebration of Los Angeles’ rich Mexican culinary scene is returning to La Plaza de Cultura y Artes in downtown Saturday. Highlights include food tastings, a tequila tent, a mezcaleria installation, a michelada beer garden and live entertainment. New to the event is a one-day market showcasing local products, artisanal edibles, home goods and apparel. Tickets are $65 and VIP tickets are $85. The event is from 7 to 11 p.m. (VIP hour is from 6 to 7 p.m.). 501 N. Main St., Los Angeles. thetasteofmexico.org.

“Zahav†dinner at Animal — Jon Shook and Vinny Dotolo’s Fairfax restaurant Animal is bringing chef Michael Solomonov for one night of his Israeli cooking, celebrating the release of his new cookbook with Steven Cook, “Zahav: A World of Israeli Cooking.†The dinner is Oct. 28. The four-course menu is $65 per person. Copies of the cookbook will be available for $35. Call the restaurant at (323) 782-9225 for reservations. 435 N. Salvadore Dali dinner with Michael Mina — Michael Mina and Galerie Moderne, a gallery in Laguna Beach, are presenting a five-course dinner inspired by four Salvadore Dali works depicting Dante’s Divine Comedy. The dinner will take place Oct. 20 at Stonehill Tavern at the St. Regis Monarch Beach in Dana Point, and will be prepared by the restaurant’s executive chef, Raj Dixit. Sommelier Paul Coker will pair wines with each course and Galerie Moderne Director Richard MacDonald Jr. will be available to provide information on each of the featured works of art. A reception will take place at 6:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 7 p.m. Tickets are $120 and include wine. To purchase tickets, call (800) 722-1543.
