Seattle activates Trufant to play against Dallas

Marcus Trufant will make his season debut for the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday at Dallas.

Seattle activated the 2007 Pro Bowl cornerback from the physically-unable-to-perform list Friday. Last week was the first time Trufant had practiced since July, when a disk issue in his back began.

Coach Jim Mora expects Trufant to play mainly in nickel defensive alignments on passing downs against the Cowboys. Josh Wilson and Ken Lucas will again be the starting cornerbacks.

Trufant takes the roster place of Lofa Tatupu. The three-time Pro Bowl linebacker went on injured reserve following surgery this week to repair a torn chest muscle.

Johnson still a Chief

Larry Johnson remained a member of the Kansas City Chiefs late Friday afternoon, but no one could say how much longer that might be the case.

Johnson’s agent, Peter Schaffer, said there had been no progress in discussions with the team over the future of the suspended running back.

Shortly after the Chiefs suspended their troubled running back Wednesday for two weeks after he used a gay slur and questioned his coach’s ability, Schaffer said he had spoken with the players’ union and would appeal.

Fine time

Arizona Cardinals safety Antrel Rolle was fined $7,500 on Friday by the NFL for hitting a defenseless receiver. Rolle was fined for his hit on Giants tight end Kevin Boss in Sunday night’s Arizona victory. . . . Cardinals tackle Levi Brown also was fined $5,000 for a chop block. . . . Indianapolis Colts cornerback Jacob Lacey was fined $10,000 for unsportsmanlike conduct when he went to the ground to celebrate after a touchdown in a win over the St. Louis Rams.

Injury update

The Minnesota Vikings will be without Pro Bowl cornerback Antoine Winfield (right foot) when they face the Green Bay Packers in a pivotal NFC North game on Sunday.

Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Reggie Wayne (strained groin) and defensive end Dwight Freeney (knee) took part in Friday’s practice and are expected to play in Sunday’s home game against the San Francisco 49ers.

Chicago Bears defensive tackle Tommie Harris will return to the starting lineup Sunday at Soldier Field against the Cleveland Browns after missing an entire week of practice and last Sunday’s game. . . . Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback Rashean Mathis won’t play Sunday against the Titans at Tennessee because of a broken finger.

Goodell before Congress again

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell is returning to Capitol Hill next week, this time to testify about the case of two professional football players whose suspensions for violating the league’s anti-doping policy were blocked by the courts. Goodell and DeMaurice Smith, head of the NFL players’ union, are among the witnesses scheduled before a House Energy and Commerce subcommittee on Tuesday, according to a witness list obtained by the Associated Press.
