Pink reportedly lands Joplin role

Singer Pink is in line to star as Janis Joplin in a big-screen biography to be directed by Penelope Spheeris, according to Variety. The movie could start filming this summer, ahead of another film about the Texas blues-rock vocalist that actress Renee Zellweger has in the works.
It would be the acting debut for Pink, whose given name is Alecia Moore. “After trying to make a picture on Janis’ life for 15 years, I’d call Alecia’s screen test the most gratifying moment in my film career,” Spheeris told Variety. Her movie has the approval of Joplin’s family and has the publishing rights to signature Joplin songs “Move Over,” “Mercedes Benz” and “Down on Me.”
A spokeswoman for Pink’s manager on Tuesday would neither confirm nor deny the Variety report.
