2 Held in Incident at Jockey’s Home
Two men have been arrested in Pasadena for allegedly attempting to break into the vacant home of jockey Chris Antley, who died suddenly of an accidental drug overdose in December, police said Friday.
Timothy Tyler Jr., 24, of Dana Point, a former friend of Antley’s, was booked on suspicion of residential burglary shortly after 6 p.m. Thursday. Jeffrey Jones, 32, of Sun Valley, was booked at the same time on the same count, and on an outstanding theft warrant, said Pasadena Police Lt. Rick Aversano.
Tyler’s name came up several times throughout the investigation into Antley’s death, which was originally called suspicious by police. Antley and Tyler were arrested by police Sept. 28, when they were caught inside Antley’s home with methamphetamines and marijuana.
On Thursday, a witness called police after seeing two men outside Antley’s home on Rosita Lane, investigators said. Officers said Tyler and Jones were trying to enter a garage connected to the house.
The coroner’s office has ruled that Antley, a two-time Kentucky Derby winner, died of an accidental overdose of methamphetamine and a weight-loss drug, but some friends and family members say they still suspect foul play.
Police have said that Tyler, who had been free on bail since his arrest on outstanding drug warrants after Antley’s body was found, is not a suspect in the jockey’s death. Detectives said they did not plan to reopen the investigation.
