Congratulations to the Indianapolis Colts.
They lost.
That assures them of the No. 1 pick in the 2012 draft, which they presumably will use on Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck (pictured above).
In losing to the Jaguars, 19-13, at Jacksonville, the Colts finished 2-14 and ahead of St. Louis -- also on its way to a 2-14 finish -- on a strength-of-schedule tiebreaker.
Colts owner Jim Irsay said his team would be hard pressed to pass on Luck, even if Peyton Manning is able to return, reasoning the Colts could follow the blueprint of Green Bay. The Packers kept Aaron Rodgers waiting in the wings while Brett Favre closed out his career there (before moving on to play for the Jets and Vikings.)
‘Wherever I land will be great,’ Luck said this week. ‘I’m not going to say I don’t care about it because I do care about football. Wherever I end up, I’m sure it will be the best spot for me.’
