LA JOLLA — Sammie Garcia, Katie Kearns and Claire Tafoya all scored for the Sailors in Saturday’s nonleague game on the road.

Josie Miller had two steals, while Sarah Barker and Kearns had assists. Maddy Kanzler had four saves in goal.

Newport Harbor (4-7) plays host to Huntington Beach in a key Sunset League game Wednesday at 5 p.m.

Costa Mesa 2, Calvary Chapel 1

SANTA ANA — Forwards Jorge De La Torre and Javier Barrera each scored a goal in the Mustangs’ Orange Coast League opener at Centennial Regional Park on Friday.

Daniel Vargas and Alexsis Garcia both had an assist for Costa Mesa (4-4-1, 1-0-0 in league).

The Mustangs play host to Laguna Beach on Wednesday at 5 p.m.

Asics Southern California Challenge

TUSTIN – Newport Harbor High senior Valdemar Gomez finished sixth place in the 285-pound division at Tustin High on Saturday.

Senior Alain Ward (120 pounds) finished in eighth place.

Newport Harbor finished 15th place out of 50 schools.
