Men’s Basketball: Lions’ Echols named Golden State Athletic Conference Player of the Week

Vanguard University senior Jaamon Echols has been named Golden State Athletic Conference Player of the Week in men’s basketball.

A 5-foot-11 guard, Echols led the No. 24-ranked Lions to two victories in as many games of its Bill Reynolds Holiday Classic on Dec. 29-30.

Echols scored a season-high 31 points, including his team’s final 11 points, in a 81-75 win over the University of Northern British Columbia on Dec. 29. He then had 15 points and seven assists in an 89-62 triumph over the University of Alberta.

Echols, a transfer from Western Washington in his first season at Vanguard, has helped the Lions go 10-2 heading into Thursday’s GSAC home game against Menlo.

His 21.3 scoring average ranks No. 13 in the NAIA.
