Rolex store at South Coast Plaza hit by smash-and-grab robbery

An investigation is underway following a smash-and-grab robbery Friday evening at the Rolex luxury watch store at Costa Mesa’s South Coast Plaza mall, authorities said.
The incident happened about 8:20 p.m. when a person or persons shattered a display case, grabbed an unspecified amount of merchandise and fled, a spokeswoman for the Costa Mesa Police Department said.
No shots were fired during the robbery, according to police. No injuries were reported.
Officers responded to the site and were interviewing witnesses.
It was unclear whether the incident was captured on surveillance video.
Santa Ana police found a black Chevrolet Impala that investigators believe was used in the crime, according to the Orange County Register. The car had been reported stolen in Brea, police said.
