Mailbag: UCI students unfairly pressured U.S. Border Patrol
- Share via
What is happening to our country? (“Border Protection recruiters drop out of UCI job fair amid opposition,” Oct. 23). The U.S. Customs and Border Patrol acquiesces to a group at UC Irvine that disagrees with the function of the Border Patrol?
What is it that they disagree with? The fact that we are trying to protect our borders? Is this the same group that finds our flag so offensive? I cannot imagine if I were to go to a country, such as Norway, and request they take down their flag or demand some of their laws be changed that I might find offensive.
The United States clearly has been one of the most welcoming countries in the world, and I would suggest those students do a little traveling to find out how welcomed they would be in some other country. There are paths in place to become a citizen; my daughter-in-law just went through the process.

Column evokes OCC memories
This is response to Jim Carnett’s archive committee article in the paper (“Archive Committee keeps Orange Coast College’s history alive,” Oct. 4): It will be almost thee years since my dad, Ray Rosso, passed away. He would have loved to have been with the group of guys on this committee. His stories were always great! He loved his job and the people he worked with. Jim, please pass on to the others the love and regards from the Rosso family.

These memories really stick
Re. “Couple builds life, love and a business out of a stamp collection,” (Oct. 30): I was a stamp collector through high school. I had many first edition stamps from the 1970s, which were stored away. I took them to the Coast Stamp Store, and he took them to use for Boy Scouts completing their stamp badge. It was a pleasure to meet him.
