14 arrested or cited at Costa Mesa DUI, license checkpoint

Costa Mesa police said they arrested one person on suspicion of driving under the influence and cited or arrested 13 others on suspicion of driving without a valid license at a checkpoint Friday night.
Officers staffed the checkpoint from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. on the northbound side of Harbor Boulevard at Peterson Place, according to a news release from the Police Department.
During those six hours, 1,335 vehicles passed through the checkpoint, police said. Officers stopped 529 of them for screenings and checked 22 drivers for possible intoxication, according to the release.
Officers impounded five vehicles during the operation, according to police.
Police funded the checkpoint with a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety administered through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
