Want to be a Laguna Beach lifeguard? Tryouts are Saturday and March 11
- Share via
It’s that time of year when Laguna Beach hosts tryouts for prospective seasonal ocean lifeguards.
The tryouts, to be held Saturday and March 11 at Main Beach, will involve a 1,000-meter swim, a run-swim-run and a sprint swim. Those who do well could then advance to the Marine Safety Department’s lifeguard academy in the coming months.
Sign-in begins at 7:30 a.m. both days at the white tower. Candidates will enter the ocean at 9 a.m. Exceptions or late arrivals will not be accommodated.
All candidates must submit an online application by 5 p.m. Thursday for the Saturday tryout and by 5 p.m. March 9 for the March 11 tryout date, according to the city’s website. A separate testing waiver must also be turned in before entering the water.
The city could hire as many as 30 seasonal lifeguards, Lt. Kai Bond wrote in an email.
