A 45-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving after officers stopped him while he was driving with a missing tire down a Costa Mesa street early Monday, according to police.
A driver called police about 1 a.m. to report a car driving erratically on the 55 Freeway near 20th Street, Costa Mesa police Sgt. Dan Miles said.
After exiting the 55 Freeway, the car traveled at high speed toward Santa Ana Avenue, according to police.
The caller said the car had a flat tire on the rear driver’s side, Miles said.
While the caller was following the car, the tire came completely off so that the wheel was down to the rim, Miles said.
Officers stopped the car near the intersection of Santa Ana Avenue and Cabrillo Street, according to police.
The driver, Jose Mendoza of Corona, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and booked into Orange County Jail, Miles said.
