Corona del Mar High senior center Giovanni Gentosi will be a preferred walk-on player with the UCLA football team and senior linebacker Alex Moore a preferred walk-on player at USC, Sea Kings Coach Scott Meyer said.
Gentosi anchored CdM’s perfect 16-0 season which included a Pacific Coast League title, a CIF Southern Section Southern Division title, and the school’s first CIF State Division III Bowl Game title.
Gentosi went 40-4 during his three years as a CdM starter. He won his final 26 games, helping the Sea Kings own the state’s current longest winning streak.
Gentosi, a 6-foot-2, 230-pounder, earned MaxPreps All-American Small Schools Football Team, CalHiSports.com All-State Medium Schools First Team, MaxPreps California Division III All-State Football First Team, CIF Southern Section Southern Division Offensive Player of the Year, first-team All-Orange County, Pacific Coast League MVP and Daily Pilot Newport-Mesa Dream Team Player of the Year accolades.
Moore suffered a torn right anterior cruciate and meniscus in the fifth game of the season against Capistrano Valley on Sept. 27. He missed the final 11 games of the season.
As a junior, Moore led CdM to an undefeated league title and a section title.
