All-League Baseball: Sage Hill trio honored

Sage Hill School senior pitcher Brett Super, sophomore pitcher Ashwin Chona and senior outfielder Jack Pelc made the All-Academy League first team in baseball.
Super, Chona and Pelc led the Lightning to a runner-up finish in league and the CIF Southern Section Division 3 playoffs. Sage Hill lost in eight innings at Lakewood Mayfair 4-3 in the wild-card round.
Brethren Christian junior Eric Alexander, a pitcher and shortstop, was on the first team.
Super, a three-time first-team selection, went 9-3 with a 0.77 earned-run average.
The right-hander struck out 104 and walked 34 in 82 1/3 innings.
Super, who is bound for Pomona-Pitzer College, threw two no-hitters.
Super hit .418 with 25 runs batted in, eight doubles and five triples. He scored 26 runs, walked 13 times, and had a .490 on-base percentage and a .645 slugging percentage.
Chona, a two-time first-team pick, finished with an 8-1 record and 1.27 ERA.
Chona tossed four no-hitters, three in a row to set a CIF Southern Section record.
The left-hander had 90 strikeouts and 19 walks in 60 2/3 innings.
Chona batted .339 with 11 RBIs and scored 14 runs.
Pelc hit .321 with two home runs and 24 RBIs. He had six triples and three doubles.
Pelc was 24 for 26 in stolen-base attempts, scored 30 runs and walked 15 times.
Pelc is heading to the University of Puget Sound, an NCAA Division III program in Tacoma, Wash.
Sage Hill junior Mike Helton, an infielder and outfielder, and sophomore catcher Conner Hatz were on the second team, along with Brethren Christian senior George Miller, a center fielder and third baseman.
Sage Hill sophomore right fielder Edward Pelc and Brethren Christian junior Jake Mann, a second baseman and catcher, were honorable mentions.
Crean Lutheran junior pitcher Josh Richter was named the Academy League MVP.
