HUNTINGTON BEACH — Junior Maddie O’Connor scored the game-winner in the 18th minute for the Sea Kings in a big nonleague game Thursday.
Junior Emily Krebs recorded the assist. Sophomore goalkeeper Kendall Mulvaney had five saves for CdM (6-1-1), which is ranked No. 11 in the nation by ESPN. Edison entered ranked No. 13.
“It was a strong, physical battle,” CdM Coach Bryan Middleton said of the game. “[The Chargers] play more of a physical style of soccer. I think it motivated my girls to get the result.
“We’re still trying to recuperate from Battle of the Bay and this past weekend; we had six games in six days. It took a whole team effort to get the victory.”
CdM plays host to Marina Saturday at 2 p.m.

WESTMINSTER — Joey Calise finished with 28 points for the Sea Kings in the quarterfinals of the Westminster Charlie Wilkins Tournament on Thursday.
The Sea Kings (4-3) play Cypress in the semifinals Friday at 6 p.m.
Jake McCloskey added 14 points for CdM.

PALOS VERDES ESTATES — Sophomore Nic Sargeant scored 25 points for the Sailors at the at Palos Verdes tournament Thursday.
Senior Chance Beauchamp added 13 points for Newport Harbor (4-5), which continues play in the tournament Saturday.

Estancia 13, Santa Ana 7
COSTA MESA — Junior Ilene Umansky scored nine goals to lead the host Eagles in the nonleague game Thursday.
Umansky, who has 66 goals this season, helped the Eagles improve to 6-5.
Estancia returns to action Jan. 2 in the Santa Ana Valley tournament.

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Melanie de Arakal finished with 17 points and four three-pointers in the Sea Kings’ second-round game at the Ocean View Tournament of Champions on Thursday.
Karleh Wilson had 13 points for CdM (5-3) and Maria King came off the bench and contributed nine second-half points.
The Sea Kings play Dominguez Friday at 5:40 p.m. The winner advances to Saturday’s fifth-place game.
