High School Roundup: Zoie Lamkin’s three-pointer helps Sage Hill girls’ hoops keep going

The Sage Hill School girls’ basketball team is just two games away from playing for a state title.
The Lightning certainly capped Thursday night’s victory with a memorable finish.
Sophomore Zoie Lamkin hit the tie-breaking three-pointer from the corner with five seconds left, lifting the Lightning to a 42-39 win at Long Beach Poly in a CIF Southern California Regional Division II playoff quarterfinal game.
Annabelle Spotts scored a career-high 17 points and pulled down eight rebounds to lead Sage Hill (24-10), while senior point guard Isabel Gomez had seven points and 11 rebounds.
Emily Eadie had seven points and six rebounds for the Lightning.
No. 6-seeded Sage Hill will play at No. 2 Ontario Christian in a Division II regional semifinal game Saturday. That game is a rematch of last year’s CIF Southern Section Division 3AA title game, won by the Lightning.
Ontario Christian 69, Pacifica Christian Orange County 58: Ava Carter had 25 points to lead the Tritons in the Division II regional quarterfinal game Thursday on the road.
Addison Deal added 13 points for Pacifica Christian, the CIF Southern Section Division 4A champion which finished its season with a 27-6 record.
Chloe Briggs scored 40 points for Ontario Christian (31-4).
Rancho Buena Vista 74, Laguna Beach 26: Sophie Marriner scored 10 points to lead the Breakers in the Division V regional quarterfinal game Thursday on the road.
Kenna Rudolph added nine points for Laguna Beach, which finished with a 21-13 record.
BOYS’ BASKETBALL
Edison 59, Los Angeles Birmingham 51: The Chargers rallied in the second half at home Thursday night to earn the win in the CIF Southern California Regional Division II quarterfinal game.
Senior forward Tyler Hampton had a game-high 23 points for No. 11-seeded Edison (28-5). The Chargers will play at No. 2-seeded Hacienda Heights Los Altos in a Division II semifinal game Saturday at 6 p.m.
Senior Trey Wilborn added 17 points for Edison.
BASEBALL
Costa Mesa 11, Godinez 0 (five innings) Pitcher Michael Joyce improved to 2-0 by throwing five shutout innings in Thursday’s nonleague game at Costa Mesa High.
Joyce struck out seven for Costa Mesa (5-2), while J.J. Kibin launched a two-run home run and also walked twice.
