High School Roundup: Sage Hill’s Jennifer Cai places 10th in CIF State girls’ golf finals

Sage Hill School senior Jennifer Cai finished 10th with a three-over-par 74 in the CIF State girls’ golf championships on Tuesday at Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach.
Cai’s round included two birdies, four bogeys and one double-bogey. This was the second straight year that Cai, bound for Northwestern, made the state tournament.
Caroline Canales of Calabasas won the title with a 71, the only one of the 54 golfers competing to record an under-par round.
GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
San Juan Hills 63, Edison 44: Senior forward Madison Copeland had 10 points for the visiting Chargers in their season opener on Tuesday.
Sophomore guard Gwen Ontiveros added nine points on a trio of three-pointers.
Edison will face Cypress in a Cavalier Classic game on Friday at 6 p.m. The tournament is being put on by Santiago High.
Costa Mesa 35, Mission Viejo 30: The Mustangs earned a win in their season opener on the road Tuesday.
Costa Mesa plays at Loara on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Ocean View 47, Santa Ana Valley 33: The Seahawks posted a road win in their season opener on Tuesday.
Ocean View will travel to take on Newport Harbor on Saturday at 2 p.m.
BOYS’ WATER POLO
Newport Harbor is the No. 2 seed and Huntington Beach the No. 5 seed for the CIF Southern California Regional Division I championships, a two-day tournament that begins Friday.
The Sailors (26-4), the defending tournament champions who finished runner-up in CIF Southern Section Division 1 to Studio City Harvard-Westlake for a second straight year, play No. 7 Foothill in the first round Friday at 7:50 p.m. at Segerstrom High.
Huntington Beach (18-10), which placed fourth in CIF Southern Section Division 1, plays No. 4-seeded The Bishop’s School of La Jolla in the first round Friday at 5:30 p.m. at Segerstrom.
The regional semifinals and title match will be held Saturday at Segerstrom, with the final scheduled at 5:05 p.m.
Harvard-Westlake is the top seed in Division I.
