College Roundup: Golden West men’s water polo beats Orange Coast at CCCAA SoCal Regionals

The No. 2-seeded Golden West College men’s water polo team beat No. 7 Orange Coast 16-8 on Friday in the quarterfinals of the CCCAA Southern California Regional championships at Riverside City College.
Orange Empire Conference champion Golden West (23-4) plays No. 6 Los Angeles Valley (15-7-1) in a regional semifinal match Saturday at 9:45 a.m. The title match is at 3 p.m.
Both finalists advance to the state championships.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
UC Irvine 69, Boise State 60: Brad Greene had 14 points and eight rebounds to lead the visiting Anteaters in a nonconference game on Friday.
Eyassu Worku had a team-high 15 points for UCI (3-1). Collin Welp added 12 points, six rebounds and five assists.
UCI plays at No. 25 Colorado on Monday at 6 p.m.
Georgetown (Ky.) 88, Vanguard 73: Isaiah Gentry had 14 points and seven rebounds in the Lions’ opening game of the Georgetown Tournament on Friday.
Michael Magee added 12 points on four three-pointers for the Lions (2-2).
Vanguard will square off with Midway University in its second game of the tournament on Saturday at 1 p.m.
WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
UC Irvine 3, UC Riverside 1: Onye Ofoegbu had a team-high 13 kills, and the Anteaters won 24-26, 25-19, 25-20, 25-21 on Friday in a Big West Conference match at Bren Events Center.
Kelly Negron had 44 assists and 15 digs for UCI (5-20, 2-11 in conference). Joy Umeh had 11 kills, and Abby Marjama added 10 kills and nine digs. Chloe Owens had a match-high 23 digs.
UCI remains at home to face UC Davis on Saturday at 7 p.m. as conference play continues.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Davidson 78, UC Irvine 72: Lauren Saiki had 18 points and six assists for the Anteaters in Friday’s Preseason NIT Tournament consolation game in Kansas City, Mo.
Alexus Seaton scored 17 points for UC Irvine (1-2), which plays another consolation game Saturday at 11 a.m. against Portland State.
MEN’S SOCCER
Fullerton 1, Golden West 0: The Rustlers suffered their first Orange Empire Conference loss Friday in the conference finale on the road.
Golden West (8-3-9, 5-1-6 in conference) finished third in conference. Fullerton (7-3-2 in conference) won the title.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
Fullerton 2, Golden West 0: The Rustlers lost their Orange Empire Conference finale Friday on the road.
Golden West (6-11-3, 3-9-2 in conference) finished tied for sixth in the eight-team conference.
