College Roundup: Vanguard women’s soccer advances to Golden State Athletic Conference tournament final

Emily Miramontes scored a second-half goal to lift the No. 2-seeded Vanguard University women’s soccer team to a 1-0 victory over No. 3 The Master’s in the semifinals of the Golden State Athletic Conference tournament Thursday at Westmont College in Santa Barbara.
Karla Navarro had the assist for the Lions (12-2-2). Goalkeeper Haley Magana made five saves to preserve the shutout over the Mustangs (12-5-3).
Vanguard will play host Westmont in the GSAC tournament title match on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
San Diego City 85, Orange Coast 42: Anna Hollister scored 20 points for the Pirates in Thursday’s season-opening loss in a Knights Invitational tournament game in San Diego.
Cristal Hernandez had a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds for Orange Coast, which continues the tournament against Los Angeles Harbor on Friday at 1 p.m. at San Diego City College.
WOMEN’S WATER POLO
Golden West 8, Cypress 2: The No. 6-seeded Rustlers advanced in the first round of the Southern California Championships tournament Thursday at Riverside City College.
Golden West (19-9) will face Santa Barbara in a SoCal regional quarterfinal match Friday at 5:45 p.m. at Riverside.
