DUI checkpoint set for Saturday

The Huntington Beach Police Department plans to conduct a DUI checkpoint along Beach Boulevard at 9 p.m. Saturday.
Funding for the program was provided by a grant from the state Office of Traffic Safety, the department said in a release. A recent report from the office showed that Huntington Beach ranked No. 1 among California cities of its size in per-capita alcohol-related traffic collisions in 2009
“The sobriety checkpoint allows officers to intervene by arresting DUI drivers, prior to them becoming involved in an accident,” the release states. “Impaired driving puts everyone on the road in danger, and we are doing everything we can to ensure that motorists have a safe place to live and drive.”
