BASEBALL
Doubleheader
SAN DIEGO — Vanguard University dropped a pair at Point Loma Nazarene, falling, 12-5 and 9-3 in Golden State Athletic Conference action Saturday.
Jason Dovel was one for four with two runs batted in to lead the No. 9-ranked Lions’ nine-hit attack in the opener.
A seven-run fifth inning helped the No. 12-ranked Sea Lions break expand what had been a 5-4 lead.
Orange Coast College product Wes Kartch went two for four with two runs batted in for the Sea Lions.
Vanguard (26-9, 17-7 in conference) managed only four hits in the seven-inning second game.
Dovel was one for two with a solo homer in Game 2, in which Brandon Pesante and Zach Leighton also had RBIs for the Lions.
Point Loma is 28-9-1, 17-7.
The Lions play at Fresno Pacific Wednesday.
WOMEN’S WATER POLO
UC Irvine 12, Pacific 6
IRVINE — Courtney Collyer had three goals and UCI teammates Jessy Cardey and Kat Plummer had two apiece to help key the Big West Conference victory Saturday.
Junior Lauren Davis made 11 saves for the No. 13-ranked Anteaters (10-13, 1-2 in conference).
No. 15-ranked Pacific is 19-1, 1-1.
UCI meets No. 18-ranked UC Davis today at noon at home.

IRVINE — Sam Gould won in singles and doubles for the host Anteaters in the Big West Conference match Saturday.
Gould’s 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 win in the No. 2 spot was the lone singles triumph for the Anteaters (13-8, 2-1 in conference).
He also paired with Khunpol Issara for an 8-6 win at No. 3 doubles.
Zac Tsai and Steven Henderson combined to post an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles to allow the hosts to claim the doubles point.
Cal Poly is 6-12, 3-1.
SOFTBALL
Doubleheader
IRVINE — Visiting Vanguard University was swept, dropping a 5-1 decision in Game 1 and falling, 3-1, in Game 2, in Golden State Athletic Conference play Saturday.
April Glenn went three for four and scored a run in the second game for the Lions (25-21, 4-12 in conference).
Elizabeth Archer was one for three with a run batted in for the Lions in the opener.
Vanguard had nine hits and five errors in the two games.
Concordia is 35-13, 10-6.
