League of Women Voters hosts talk on initiative process
“Democracy by Initiative” will be discussed at 9:16 a.m. Saturday by the League of Women Voters.
Marilyn Lees, advocacy chairwoman for the Orange Coast League of Women Voters, will discuss a number of initiatives for the June ballot.
Proposals range from campaign finance reform to changes in the budget process to open primaries.
The meeting is open to all at the home of Jeannette Merrilees, 150 McKnight Drive.

Transition Laguna starts new garden project
Transition Laguna Beach’s Food Group is seeking to build 15 gardens surrounding Oak Street, culminating in a big harvest party in July.
Two gardens will be built from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. There will also be music, refreshments, seedlings for the taking, and kids’ gardening workshops

Church holds tours of restored sanctuary
Laguna Presbyterian Church will conduct half-hour tours of its renovated sanctuary starting at 11:15 a.m. Sunday.
The 1927 building was recently reopened after an $11-million project to restore the interior to its Mission Style.
The architect, John Loomis, designed the restoration of Mission San Juan Capistrano.

Arts Commission has open seat for term until 2011
The City Council of the city of Laguna Beach is accepting applications for an unexpired term on the Arts Commission. The term expires June 30, 2011.
The seven-member commission is appointed by the council. The commissioners serve a two-year terms and receive $80 per month in compensation.
The Arts Commission acts in an advisory capacity to the City Council in matters pertaining to the arts.
All applicants will be interviewed by the council at 6 p.m. April 6 in the Council Chambers, 505 Forest Ave.
Laguna Beach residents who are interested are required to submit an application, available at the city clerk’s office or at www.lagunabeachcity.net.
Applications must be filed by 5 p.m. Tuesday.
Doctor’s lecture benefits shelter
Dr. Jane Bening, a long-time Laguna Beach resident, will discuss “Love and Hormones” from a gynecologist’s perspective at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the David Salon, 355 Bristol St., Suite D, Costa Mesa.
The cover is $10. All proceeds benefit Human Options, a local woman’s shelter.
