BASEBALL
UC Irvine seniors Jeff Cusick and Kyle Necke earned Big West Conference player and pitcher of the week laurels it was announced Monday.
Cusick went eight for 16 with nine runs batted in to help UCI win four games and up its winning streak to six.
Necke, a reliever, posted an win and a save in two outings, spanning 6 2/3 innings. He struck out 10, walked one and did not allow an earned run.
Necke earned the save and Cusick drove in three runs Sunday to help UCI win, 8-5, and finish off a three-game nonconference sweep of visiting Gonzaga.
Casey Stevenson, Brian Hernandez and Ronnie Shaeffer had two hits each for UCI (13-6).
