UC Irvine 6, Gonzaga 4

IRVINE — Senior first baseman Jeff Cusick went four for four and drove in two runs and senior second baseman Casey Stevenson had a three-run double to help the No. 15-ranked Anteaters open the nonconference home series on a positive note Friday.

Senior All-American Danny Bibona struck out 10 and allowed four hits and one earned run in eight innings to improve to 3-1.

After Crosby Slaught gave up three unearned runs on two-thirds of an inning, senior Eric Pettis got the final out for his second save.

UCI (11-6) had 12 hits, including a four-for-four performance from sophomore left fielder Jordan Fox.

Stevenson’s bases-loaded double keyed a five-run second inning for the hosts.

UCI plays host to Gonzaga today at 1 p.m.

Vanguard 7,

Lewis-Clark State 2

COSTA MESA — Allesandro Ventre, Lucas Pereira, Tino Brodar and Sandro Bucher won in singles and doubles for the No. 6-ranked Lions, who played host to the nonconference match Friday at Costa Mesa Tennis Center.

Ventre won, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 1 singles.

Vanguard improved to 6-4.

COSTA MESA — The No. 9-ranked Lions dominated the nonconference home match Friday at Costa Mesa Tennis Center.

Gabriela Bergmanova, Betyel Tesfa, Kateryna Malakhova and Anna Valingsten won in singles and doubles for the Lions (7-4).

Bergmanova and Tesfa won, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively.

SANTA CLARITA — The Lion lost only two games in 12 singles sets and won all three doubles matches at love on Friday afternoon at the Paseo Club.
