5 charged in home invasion

Prosecutors have charged five men with various robbery, weapon and kidnapping charges related to a violent home-invasion robbery in Newport Coast earlier this week.

Antoine Bashiri Boyd, 31, Mickael Andre Hastings, 36, Ronnie Labert Morrissette, 34, Darrin Mucker, 37, all from Los Angeles, and Peter Joseph Paturzo, 44, of Mission Viejo, are all charged with multiple counts of robbery, kidnapping and assault with a firearm. The men face life in prison if convicted of all charges.

Hastings is the only defendant in custody and had his arraignment continued to next month.

Police said the men conspired to rob former sub-prime lender Daniel Sadek’s home in a gated Newport Coast community Tuesday night.

According to police, the men met at a Newport Beach grocery store parking lot and drove in three cars to the community. One of the men had a gate pass to get in, while Paturzo waited outside the neighborhood in a Honda Civic, officials said. When police were called after the robbery, they found Paturzo sitting there and arrested him.

While Paturzo was the lookout, authorities said the other four men gathered in one car and went inside the community.

Morrissette, Hastings and Mucker allegedly got out when they reached the house, and Boyd waited in the car. Police said the three men went inside and took over, tying up the nine people inside and pistol-whipping three of them. They stole watches, wallets, cell phones, cash and other valuables, prosecutors claim. Someone was able to call 911, and the men scattered outside the house.

Boyd tried to get away in his car but was arrested as he left, police said. Prosecutors said Hastings was found in a nearby yard. He had apparently hurt himself while running away. Mucker and Morrissette escaped and remain at large. A $1-million warrant has been issued for their arrest. Hastings is also being held in lieu of $1-million bail. Paturzo and Boyd are free on $100,000 bail.
