Fat Pandas capture boys’ championship
The Fat Pandas, a Laguna Beach AYSO U12 boys’ soccer team, finished in first place in regular league play Nov. 21.
After finishing in first place in pool play, the Fat Pandas progressed to the championship playoffs, where they defeated Blue Crew in a nail-biting California shootout. The Fat Pandas went on to defeat AC Milan in the title game, 4-2, to win the U12 title for Laguna Beach.
Other teams competing at the age group included Golden Touch and Team 6.
The Fat Pandas next head to the AYSO Area Tournament of Champions, held this weekend in San Juan Capistrano.
Wild Infernos win girls’ crown
Laguna Beach’s own Wild Infernos captured the regional U12 girls’ title on Nov. 21, with a roller-coaster game that had players and spectators in wild suspense.
As twilight approached, the Wild Infernos tied, then proceeded with a sudden-death matchup that ultimately led to four players against four players. On a breakaway charger, Tatum Sandvigen scored the deciding goal and secured the team’s spot in the AYSO Division playoffs Saturday in San Juan Capistrano.
