NEWPORT BEACH — Top-seeded seniors Melissa Matsuoka and Hailey Hogan advanced to the round of 16 in doubles Friday at The Tennis Club.

Matsuoka and Hogan had a bye in the first round before defeating Jenny Kavak and Danielle Cooney of St. Lucy’s, 6-2, 6-2, in the second round. They then got by Jacqueline Nguyen and Thao Pham of Fountain Valley, 6-0, 6-0, to book their ticket to the Round of 16 at Seal Beach Tennis Center, scheduled for Dec. 3 at 11 a.m.

Matsuoka and Hogan, the Pacific Coast League doubles champions, advanced to the semifinals at CIF Individuals playing doubles together as sophomores two years ago.

Newport Harbor

NEWPORT BEACH — The Sailors’ Christina Young and Ricki Archie advanced to the second round Friday at The Tennis Club. The Sunset League doubles runners-up got by Norma Chavarain and Dakota Vons of Magnolia, 6-1, 6-0, before falling to Haley Miller and Tiffany Chang of St. Margaret’s, 6-0, 6-1.

NEWPORT BEACH — Eagles senior Kendra Fisher fell in the opening round to Joanna Smith of Dana Hills, 6-0, 6-1. Fisher qualified as the Orange Coast League singles runner-up.
