A 26-year-old Costa Mesa man was killed Saturday when a truck he was thrown from rolled on top of him, San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner officials said Monday.
Andrew Ryan McKenzie was pronounced dead at the scene Saturday when authorities found him crushed at Calico Dry Lake in Yermo, a town near Barstow. On Saturday afternoon, McKenzie was riding with friends in an off-road truck in the Calico Dry Lake bed, a popular place for off-roading with quads and motorcycles, about three miles south of Calico Ghost Town, authorities said.
McKenzie was in the rear passenger seat when the driver lost control of the truck and rolled it over, coroner officials said.
McKenzie was thrown from the vehicle, and as the truck tumbled, it rolled over him. Emergency personnel were on the scene by 4:40 p.m. and confirmed McKenzie was dead, authorities said.
The condition of the driver and other passengers was not immediately available.
