In response to “Whatever happened to the Art”

I too followed the art debate for the Community/Senior Center and also wonder why in this artsy town of Laguna Beach, there is no real visible art at this prominent building. I believe the reason is that the buildings landscape designer Ann Cristoff opposed art in front of the center. It was apparent that everyone was in favor of the arts commissions’ selection. With her being an X Mayor of Laguna, along with her long-standing position as a one of the cities most used landscape designers, there was favoritism creating a political fix. While I like what she did at Bluebird Park, this landscape scene falls short of my expectations, especially in light of the stature of this project. She said the whale sculpture would be too close to the tree. The mural that was to be over the underground parking garage was blocked due to Cristoff’s alleged trialing vines. There are no trailing vines and no mural. I agree, if art was to be nearly eliminated, the landscaping should be exceptional.
