Pirates’ Holley honored
Orange Coast College sophomore tailback Ray Holley has been named Offensive Player of the Week by the Southern California Football Assn.
Holley, who earned the honor once previously this season, scored the game-winning touchdown and rushed for 191 yards on 42 carries in the Pirates’ 33-27 three-overtime win over National Division rival Santa Ana, Oct. 10 at OCC.
Holley, who missed a series in the second quarter after receiving a blow on the outside of his right knee, scored three touchdowns in the game.
Holley has 998 rushing yards this season for OCC, which had a bye Saturday.
OCC sophomore outside linebacker Jimmy Keating was among the nominees for the Defensive Player of the Week award. He had 14 tackles, three for losses, including 1.5 sacks, and also had the game-clinching interception on a deflected pass to end the final overtime series.
Keating also broke up one pass.
