School to host blended preschool program

The Huntington Beach City School District is opening a blended preschool program this fall at the John H. Eader Elementary School.

The pilot program will put six typical preschoolers in a class with six special needs students for half-day classes. The class will be run by a teacher with credentials in both typical and special education teaching, a mix the district believes will be successful, said Judi Graham-Johnson, the district director of student services.

“We believe this is the final piece in our preschool program,” Graham-Johnson said. “We’re quite excited, and we’re hopeful this will set the stage to look at our practices at all age groups.”

The district is offering one class from 8:40 to 11:42 a.m. daily, Graham-Johnson said.
