Costa Mesa-based National Charity League celebrated

Submitted by Dan Pittman

More than 450 dedicated women from across the country representing National Charity League, Inc. (NCL) Chapters in 15 states met recently in Atlanta, Georgia at the premier mother-daughter organization’s annual meeting and leadership conference – the first in 50 years to be held in the eastern United States – to learn about challenges currently facing non-profits, focus on governance issues and build leadership capacity of Chapter level leaders. The organization’s national headquarters is located in Costa Mesa.

According to Hillary Niblo, the organization’s executive director, the meeting underscored the importance of social responsibility in today’s world and volunteerism practiced by NCL Chapter members in light of these troubling economic times. Last year alone, NCL mother and daughter members across the county volunteered a cumulative total of 937,618 hands-on hours with local charities, representing a value of more than $18,000,000 to communities nationwide.

Highlights of the event included a keynote address by world-renowned author Grace Cirocco, the donation of toiletries to an Atlanta Women’s Shelter called City of Refuge, and the presentation of a donation of more than $4,100 to One Dollar for Life, an international aid group that was co-founded by one of NCL’s former Ticktocker members who spoke to attendees at the event. (Ticktockers are girls in 7th-12th grade.)

Additionally, four NCL awards were given out: The Innovative Program award, the Spirit of NCL award, the Outstanding Ticktocker Program award and the Outstanding Chapter award. Two of these awards were given to Southern California Chapters (Yorba Linda and San Fernando Valley)
