1928-2008
Dottylou Branning passed away peacefully
with grace in the wee hours of the
morning on November 18, 2008 at the
age of 80 in Vacaville, California after
living with Alzheimer’s Disease for the past 12 years. She
was the loving mother of Robert Branning (Roneale), Marcia
Nutter (Dennis), and Rich Branning (Dianna), and the Oma
to 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. She was born
on January 2, 1928 in Pittsburg Pennsylvania , the only child
of Dorothy Revenig and Leroy Loudermilk.
Dottylou lived in her Huntington Beach home for 37 years.
For those 37 years she was a homemaker. As her children
got older, she worked part time for the Huntington Beach
Recreation Department and the Ocean View School District
to help finance her undergraduate schooling and her dream
of becoming a school teacher. At the age of 40, after 10 years
of working and going to school part-time, she graduated from
Fullerton State University and realized her dream. At Palms
Elementary School in Lakewood , Dottylou’s compassion
for her students and love of life made her a favorite teacher.
She loved teaching. At the age of 65 and 25 years at Palms
School , she retired. She looked forward to retirement and
her favorite pastimes of visiting with family, reading, riding
her bike and visiting with her dear friends over a cup of coffee
or a walk along the beach. In 1996, she was diagnosed
with Alzheimer’s Disease and in 1998, leaving her dear longtime
friends, she moved to Northern California where her
daughter could care for her.
She is much loved, and will be remembered by friends and
family, especially for her generous, warm, bright smile; loving,
open arms; an easy laugh; a hop in her step, and her all-time
great tacos.
A private family service was held graveside at Forest Lawn
Memorial Park, Cypress . Memorial donations in Dottylou’s
name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Aid Society, Lodi, CA.
