NEWPORT COAST — Lion Wintemute, Taylor Ross and Max Ellison scored three goals each for the Lightning in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division VII playoffs Thursday.
The game was played Thursday rather than the originally scheduled time for today because of a schedule conflict for the Huskies. Sage Hill (11-2-6) will play in the second round Wednesday against today’s winner in the match of Bloomington Christian against the California Academy of Math and Science.
Colton Gyulay scored two goals for the Lightning, while Michael Bear and Nick Singarella added one goal each.

PASADENA — Heather Flores scored on a penalty kick and assisted on another goal, helping the Eagles in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division III playoffs Thursday.
Estancia (11-7-5) won its second playoff match since 1993. The Eagles advance to the second round and play host to Mayfair of Lakewood on Tuesday.
Alissa Scheafer and Jackie Freiberger each scored goals for Estancia.

LOS ANGELES — Megan Kim tied the game with 20 minutes left in regulation, but the Lightning lost after overtime in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division VI playoffs Thursday.
Jackie Dion assisted on the goal for Sage Hill (8-10-2).
Jordan Team, Dion and Kim made goals during the penalty-kick shootout.
Junior goalie Hannah MacLeod recorded 12 saves.

LA CANADA — Junior Katie Bergsma and senior Brittany Rhyme scored eight points each for the Sea Kings in the first round of CIF Southern Section Division IV-AA playoffs Thursday.
Sophomore Kayla Marolt scored six points. Bergsma grabbed 10 rebounds, while Rhyme had six rebounds for CdM (18-10) which finished 7-19 last year when they dropped nine straight to close out the season.
“We had a great year, a great turnaround year from last year,” CdM Coach Mark Decker said. “We played really hard. I’m really proud of what we did this year.”

NEWPORT COAST — The host Lightning trailed by seven at halftime and 13 after three quarters, but were blitzed in the final period in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division V-AA playoffs Thursday.
Stephanie Garrison had 14 points and Morgan Hembarky added 12 for the Lightning (16-9).
Freshman Kari Korver had eight three-pointers and scored 19 of her 28 points after halftime for the No. 4-seeded Crusaders (17-11) from Cerritos.

LAS FLORES — Senior Ashley Rendon and junior Kayci Decker scored three goals each for the Mustangs in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division II playoffs Thursday.
Junior goalie Danielle Bowen played her game of the season, Costa Mesa Coach Tim Postiff said, and recorded 13 saves and two steals. The Mustangs finished the season at 16-14.
