O’Tousa, Henrie, Bernay finalize plans for college

Newport Harbor High seniors Christina O’Tousa, Kayla Henrie and Maggie Bernay recently committed to play soccer at their respective colleges of choice.

O’Tousa signed her letter of intent to play at Georgetown. She competed for the San Juan Capistrano-based Southern California Blues Soccer Club. For the Sailors she was a team MVP and also a two-time team captain.

“Christina is a very good defender with great leadership qualities,” Georgetown Coach Dave Nolan said in a release. “She can play anywhere along the back line and also as a defensive center midfielder. Having competed at a very high level with her club team, she plays with great composure and confidence. I expect her to battle straight away for a starting spot and am very excited to see how she develops over these next four years.”

Henrie is headed for the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. She is a 5-foot-10 midfielder who also played for the Newport Beach-based Slammers.

“Kayla will bring in a wealth of experience from playing at a high level most of her life in Southern California. Her technical skill and nose for the goal along with her 5-10 stature will make her a nice addition to the midfield and cause her to be a target player on corners and set pieces,” Ragin’ Cajuns Coach Scot Wieland said in a release. “She is a very smart tactical player with great vision and will look to compete for serious playing time in the center midfield.”

Bernay will play at Hobart & William Smith in Geneva, N.Y.

Bernay’s sister, Julia, just completed her senior season as a soccer player at Hobart & William Smith.

Newport Harbor finished the season 5-12-1, 4-6 in the Sunset League.
