COSTA MESA — Sophomore Casey Gomez went four for five from three-point range and finished with 19 points for the Pirates in the Orange Empire Conference upset Friday.

Freshman Chelsea Alfafara added eight points to help OCC (20-9, 7-3 in conference) deal the Hornets (22-8, 9-1), ranked No. 12 in the state, their first OEC loss.

OCC, ranked No. 18 in the state, remains in third place with two conference games remaining, but may have assured itself an at-large berth into the Southern California regional playoffs with the win.

COSTA MESA — Martin Whitemore had 17 points and eight rebounds to lead the Pirates in the Orange Empire Conference home game Friday.

Chris Curtis added 15 points and Chad Delaney chipped in 11 for the Pirates (9-20, 2-8 in conference).

Fullerton, with four players in double figures, including Lavell McDade with 20, improved to 17-9, 9-1.

LAS VEGAS — Wins at Nos. 5 and 6 singles by sophomore Khunpol Issara and freshman Fabian Matthews gave the visiting Anteaters a 3-0 lead in the nonconference match Friday.

But the top four singles players all lost to allow the Rebels to claim the nonconference triumph.

Matthews, a Corona del Mar High product, topped Attila Toth, 6-4, 6-3, while Issara handled Bryan Miller, 6-3, 6-4.

UCI won two of three doubles matches to claim the doubles point.
