COSTA MESA — Freshman Amanda Omahen drove in the game-winning run with an infield single to allow the Lions to claim a 3-2 win and split a nonconference doubleheader Monday.

Pacific Lutheran of Washington won the opener, 2-0.

Omahen, playing left field, center fielder Kasey Klarenbach and shortstop Sarah Howe were each two for three with one run batted in Game 2 for the Lions (1-1).

Melissa Forrester earned the pitching victory, while Emilee Reaber earned a save.

Vanguard was held to four hits in the opener.

TUCSON — UC Irvine senior Sean Shahi was one-under par and the Anteaters were in 12th place as play was suspended early due to darkness in the second round Monday at Arizona National Golf Club.

WOMEN’S WATER POLO

UC Irvine tournament

IRVINE — The Anteaters opened their season with three wins Sunday at Anteater Aquatics Complex.

The No. 13-ranked hosts topped No. 12-ranked Hartwick, 12-7, in the finale, after trouncing Cal State San Bernardino, 21-3, and thumping Pomona Pitzer, 18-3.

Senior Gianna Rossi had 10 goals in the three games to lead UCI (3-0).

HONOLULU — Sophomore Brooke Bartlett and freshman Courtney Byron won at No. 3 and No. 4 singles, respectively, to produce the lone points for the Anteaters (1-2) Saturday.
