Foundation matches funds from kiteboarding derby

The Newport Beach-based John Wayne Cancer Foundation has teamed up with an annual kiteboarding event to raise $143,000 that will support cancer patient services and research.

The John Wayne Cancer Foundation matched funds from the Kiteboarding 4 Cancer derby, a six-hour kiteboarding event along the Columbia River in Oregon.

A portion of funds will be donated to the Children’s Healing Art Project, which provides art activities to sick children; and the Scotty Guild for the Child Life Program at Children’s Hospital Seattle, which gives hospitalized children and teenager’s access to art and music. Money from the event also will go to help the Celilo Cancer Center Patient Services Fund, which gives patients access to healing therapies; and the John Kanzius Cancer Research Foundation to fund research on the use of radio wave technology to treat cancer.
