UCI’s Thompson lauded

UC Irvine sophomore forward Spencer Thompson was named Big West Conference Player of the Week in men’s soccer following the week completed Sept. 14.

Thompson had a pair of game-winning goals for the Anteaters, who went 2-0-1 in a busy week of action. He was named all-tournament at the UCI College Classic, completed Sept. 1, and the Saint Mary’s Tournament, which the Anteaters won.

He scored in the 85th minute to key a 2-1 win over Cleveland State on Sept. 1 in the finale of the College Classic.

He scored in the 79th minute against Saint Mary’s College in the ’Eaters 3-2 win Sept. 7 and added an assist in a 1-1 tie against Sacramento State Sept. 5.
