WOMEN’S SOCCER

IRVINE — Sophomore Alyssa Humphrey scored the gamewinning goal for the Anteaters in the 32nd minute of the nonconference game Friday.

Junior Amanda Phillips assisted on the goal.

Sophomore goalkeeper Danielle de Seriere had one save as she picked up her first shutout of the season for UCI (2-4).

MOBILE, Ala. — Karri Currier scored two goals, the latter tying the nonconference game in the 84th minute for the Lions, who remained unbeaten Friday at the University of Mobile Soccer Classic.

The Lions (3-0-1) trailed, 2-0 after 32 minutes of play and did not answer until the 71st minute when Danielle Dintino scored on an assist from Currier. Ten minutes later, Currier scored to tie it up, 2-2. William Carey regained the leaed in the 82nd minute. Christy Horning had two assists, both coming on Currier’s goals.

COSTA MESA — Caitlin Wallace scored on a penalty kick in the 57th minute to help the Pirates to the nonconference win Friday at OCC.

Beth Krikorian set up the penalty kick, when she was tripped inside the 18-yard box. Wallace stepped up and ripped a shot into the lower-right corner of the goal. Goalkeeper Caitlin Schott posted two saves for the Pirates (2-2-2).

MEN’S SOCCER

UC Irvine 2, Alabama Birmingham 2

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Anteaters remained unbeaten by tying the hosts in their own tournament Friday night.

Sophomore Spencer Thompson converted a pass from junior Irving Garcia into a 1-0 UCI lead in the 10th minute.

After UAB pulled even, senior Carlos Aguilar scored with assists from Garica and senior Rafael Macedo in the 56th minute.

But the Blazers (2-2-1) scored with one minute left in regulation to force overtime.

UCI outshot UAB, 7-1, in the two scoreless overtimes.

Vanguard 1, Moblie 1

MOBILE, Ala. — The Lions played through two overtimes in the nonconference tie at the University of Mobile Soccer Classic Friday.

Ryan Marquez scored on an assist from Jordan Rodino 96 seconds into the game for Vanguard (1-1-1).

Mobile tied it in the 81st minute.

Trevor Herrera had five savies for the Lions.

WHITTIER — Briant Rodelo scored two goals to help the Pirates notch their second straight road win Friday in nonconference action

Gustavo Ibarra scored for OCC (4-1), while Scotty Locken, Adrian Buonanoce and Ryan Evans each had an assist.

OCC’s Jake Mahlstedt had two saves.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

LOS ANGELES — Sophomore Kari Pestolesi led all players with 18 kills for the Anteaters at the LAX/LMU Volleyball Classic at Loyola Marymount Friday.

The Spartans won, 23-25, 25-17, 25-18, 25-23.

The loss was the Anteaters’ third straight, dropping them to 3-5, while SJSU improved to 3-5.

Redshirt freshman Alexandra Hauser had a career-high six block assists while outside hitter Lauren Kellerman added four. Senior Devon Sutherland had a match-high 19 digs, Shannan Homan had 11 kills and Taryn Robertson added 45 assists.

Orange Coast def. Glendale

GLENDALE — Christina Richards and Rachel Freeno had nine kills each to help the Pirates to a 25-17, 25-18, 25-18 nonconference sweep Friday.

Jessica Brown had eight kills and Emily Lyon added 25 assists for OCC (2-0). Glendale dropped to 0-2.
