Newport council to discuss rehab settlement tonight

The Sober Living by the Sea settlement with Newport Beach will be the major topic of discussion at the City Council meeting at 7 p.m. tonight in the City Hall Council Chambers.

There will be no vote on the settlement tonight, but it is the first public discussion by City Council members since the settlement was made public nearly two weeks ago.

A summary of the settlement will be delivered at the beginning of the City Council meeting.

The settlement has been a hot button issue in Newport Beach, as proponents of the deal say its bed cap regulations and distance requirements help with over-concentration, while some have argued the deal doesn’t do enough to lower the rehab home facilities’ population in Balboa Peninsula and West Newport Beach.
