Scholarship foundation marks 20th anniversary

The Laguna Beach High School Scholarship Foundation will celebrate its 20th anniversary at this year’s Honors Convocation on June 4.

The district’s history of benevolence began in 1938, when the Ebell Club, a women’s community service organization, first gave scholarships.

At last year’s Honors Convocation almost $200,000 in scholarships was awarded to 100 graduating seniors.

School district sees increasing enrollment

Laguna Beach was one of onlynine school districts in the county to have increased enrollment in the 2007-08 school year, new state figures show.

Its enrollment of 2,893 students this year was up by 33 students, compared to declines in the majority of other county districts due to high housing costs and low birth rates when many of today’s incoming students were born.

Boys & Girls Clubs plan annual giving gala

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Laguna Beach will hold their eighth annual Art of Giving Gala, “Art of Paradise,” from 5:30 to 11 p.m. May 9 at the Montage Resort & Spa, 30801 S. Coast Hwy.; attire is “Laguna Casual with Dazzle.”

Fashion show, auction benefits class of 2010

Laguna Beach High School models will hold a fashion show, silent auction and bake sale benefiting the class of 2010 at 7:30 May 2 in the Artists’ Theatre.

The students will wear the latest in Tokyo fashion as Sasha, formerly of Cirque du Soleil, will perform acrobatics in a special guest appearance.

Additional fundraisers planned for Krajec

About $20,000 was raised in a fundraiser for 3-year-old Christofer Krajec, who has an inoperable brain tumor, at a recent event at the Laguna Beach Boys & Girls Clubs. Two more events have been scheduled to raise funds for his recent treatment in Mexico.

A fitness event at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in Alta Laguna Park has a suggested donation of $25. RSVP at (949) 497-3203.
