Steve Rohrer of Mesa Verde Country Club and Mike Carpenter of Big Canyon Country Club have been selected to represent Fletcher Jones Motorcars in Hawaii at the Mercedes-Benz National Golf Championship Jan. 7, 2008.
Carpenter and Rohrer qualified for the event by scoring the best low gross scores at the Jones Cup, a one-day tournament that featured both male and female golfers from Big Canyon, Mesa Verde, Newport Beach and Santa Ana Country Clubs.
Rohrer had the best score among amateurs in the Jones Cup with a three-under-par 69. Carpenter, who shot 71 to help Big Canyon win the Jones Cup by one stroke, wasn’t even supposed to play in the Jones Cup Sept. 6.
He was a fill-in for his friend Will Tipton, the Big Canyon men’s champion, who was playing at Pine Valley in New Jersey.
The Fletcher Jones Motorcars’ team will go head to head against 150 teams from across the country.
The winning team and the individual who posts the tournament’s lowest overall score will form a new team to represent Mercedes-Benz USA in the Mercedes Trophy World Final which is to be held in Stuttgart, Germany, in the fall of 2008.
