Students raise money for Papua New Guinea help

On Wednesday, six weeks of excitement, hard work and donations will pay off as members of Christ Lutheran School in Costa Mesa present their pastor, John Davies, with a check to fund his mission in Papua New Guinea.
Christ Lutheran School students raised $4,500 in six weeks. The money will replace a grass-thatched hut with an iron-roofed building and fund school supplies and a teacher’s one-year salary for the Kobon people in the island nation north of Australia.
Davies has been making the around-the-world trip for 35 years, and most recently funded four new schools there through donations.
The kids raised $3,000 in six weeks and were given an additional $1,500 by one parent moved by the kids’ enthusiasm.
The check will be presented to Davies at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the school’s chapel service. He returns to Papua New Guinea four days later.
