High school team raises CHOC Walk funds
Co-chairwomen Emily Marcus and Alexandra Palmer of Laguna Beach High School organized a 30-person team to walk in this year’s CHOC Walk in the Park at the Disneyland Resort Oct. 21.
The walk raises funds for the Children’s Hospital of Orange County.
This year’s team members included history teacher Jonathan Todd, the varsity football team, volleyball players, golfers and students from the high school. The team raised $2,580 for CHOC.
Extracurricular activities closed this weekend
The Orange County Superintendent of Schools, Bill Habermehl, said Thursday that school events such as games and other extracurricular activities for this weekend are postponed until further notice, following a conference call with county districts.
Golf registration deadline today
Nearly 300 golfers will tee off Nov. 5 at the 36-hole Coto de Caza Golf & Racquet Club for the 15th Annual SchoolPower “Got Beach” Golf Tournament.
Registration fees and donations are expected to exceed the $100,000 goal. Laguna Beach public schools will receive 80% of the proceeds.
The school’s athletic department will receive the remaining 20%, making it the department’s largest contribution.
At this year’s four-person scramble, registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and tee time is 9:30. Each player will receive a gift bag containing a T-shirt, hat and other goodies.
Event fees include a catered breakfast sponsored by La Rue du Chocolat and lunch by the Surf and Sand Resort.
To add to the excitement, several games can be played at each course for great prizes.
Following the tournament at 4:30 p.m., the cocktail reception and silent auction with live music will start. Guests can bid on art, wine, sports tickets, vacation homes, dinners, golf packages, clothing and sports gear. An awards dinner will be at the club house.
Registration is $325 for golf and dinner, or $100 for cocktails, dinner and a free “Fun Bus” ride from two pickup locations in town.
Today is the registration deadline; register at www.lbschoolpower.org or contact SchoolPower at (949) 494-6811. Sponsorships are still being accepted.
Parents plan costume parade for younger kids
The Laguna Beach Parents Club is hosting its Third Annual Halloween Parade on Main Beach at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Children and their parents are invited to meet near the playground at the south end of Main Beach. The parade is open to all children who live in Laguna Beach and is geared toward the newborn to early elementary school-aged set.
Everyone is invited and encouraged to dress in costume as they parade down Main Beach’s boardwalk for an hour of Halloween fun. At the close of the parade, children’s refreshments will be served.
The Halloween Parade is one of the Club’s most popular activities, with more than 100 children expected to participate.
The Club has family events throughout the year, ranging from weekly age-specific playgroups to the recently held Oktoberfest.
The club has a tradition of members volunteering to bring meals to families who have just had a baby or are in times of need.
