Costa Mesa police arrest a robbery suspect

A 25-year-old man Costa Mesa police questioned Wednesday in connection with an armed robbery this week was arrested on suspicion of armed robbery, but authorities could not say if it was for the same hold-up.

After having questioned Anthony Maldonado, 25, of Huntington Beach, police arrested him on suspicion of armed robbery and possession of stolen property.

But investigators have not positively identified him as a suspect in Monday’s morning stickup outside the Costa Mesa Credit Union, 2701 Harbor Blvd., police said.

The robber stole a cellphone and $130 from a man after he left the bank, Glass said.

Westminster police arrested Maldonado Wednesday on suspicion of robbery in connection with a holdup Tuesday night, Westminster police said.

Maldonado was kept in custody at Costa Mesa City Jail on $100,000 bail and is scheduled to be arraigned today at Harbor Justice Center, Costa Mesa Sgt. Bryan Glass said.
