Stores raise cancer research funds with contest

Carpet One Floor & Home, which has two outlets in Newport-Mesa, has partnered with Country Living magazine in a welcome mat design contest to raise funds for breast cancer research.

Earlier this year, the retailer and magazine held a Design for Pink contest, inviting artists nationwide to create designs that included pink ribbons. The five finalists are now posted online at www.countryliving.com.

Through July 2, people can vote for their favorite design online, with the winner to be included in Carpet One Floor & Home’s fall 2007 welcome mat collection.

Twenty-five percent of sales from the mats will go to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation and the Canadian Cancer Society.

LAB to hold pet fashion show with prizes

Dog owners who want to show off their canines in style can bring them to the LAB alternative mall in Costa Mesa on Saturday.

The “Pet-a-Porter” fashion show, with prizes donated by Barking Baby, Lola & Foxy and other retailers, will take place from 2 to 5 p.m.
